Les représentants des IXP (Internet eXchange Points) Catnix, Espanix, Lyonix, MIX, Namex et Topix se sont réunis à Barcelone pour signer un « Memorandum of Understanding » (MoU) dans l'intention de développer la collaboration dans les domaines liés au trafic internet en Europe du sud.

Ce MoU symbolise la création du groupe SEIX (South European Internet Exchange) dont l'objectif est de réduire les disparités avec l'Europe du nord en terme de trafic internet échangé entre les IXP membres. Le groupement s'intéressera principalement au développement du trafic internet au sud de l'Europe, de la zone méditerranée et du moyen-Orient. Selon les principes généraux adoptés par le groupement, les membres vont travailler à renforcer le développement de l'internet dans les zones géographiques concernées.

La première étape sera de publier une Newsletter comme outil d'information et de coopération sur différents sujets techniques ou commerciaux, et de favoriser une prise de conscience au niveau du marché. Le groupement des IXP a également décidé d'organiser des évènements pour favoriser l'émergence d'un réseau social entre ses membres et pour développer la collaboration entre les différents IXP. Ce groupement sera managé par un Comité Directeur constitué d'un représentant de chaque IXP.

Samuel Triolet, Directeur de Rézopole déclare : « il y a déjà trois ans que nous travaillons avec nos partenaires européens à la mise en place d'interconnexion avec les IX de sud-Europe. Il s'agit d'une volonté technique et économique de mettre en place des liens directs entre les principales villes du bassin méditerranéen ; on n'aurait pas idée de passer par Amsterdam par autoroute pour aller de Lyon à Turin ! Il en est de même désormais sur Internet ; une interconnexion directe a été créée ! C'est aujourd'hui aussi une volonté politique puisque Rézopole est soutenue dans cet objectif par le Grand-Lyon et la Région Rhône-Alpes. »

Concernant CATNIX : CATNIX est le nœud central de la Catalogne. Après plusieurs années de consolidation, CATNIX est maintenant en phase de mise en place d'une nouvelle politique de développement stratégique, notamment en développant sa gamme de services et de ressources à forte valeur ajoutée dans le but d'offrir à ses membres les meilleurs produits du marché, ce qui se positionnera CATIX au même niveau que les autres IXPs européens de même importance.

Concernant ESPANIX : ESPANIX est un des leaders dans la zone Sud-Europe. Avec environ 50 membres et 120 Gbps de trafic en période de pointe et les meilleures conditions d'hébergement, ESPANIX est un partenaire de tout premier ordre pour les entreprises internet/telecom qui cherchent à se développer.

Concernant LYONIX : Avec une vingtaine de membres raccordés, LYONIX est la seule ville de France (hors Paris) à disposer de son propre GIX. LYONIX est géré par REZOPOLE (une association à but non-lucratif) et se développe dans la région Rhône-Alpes (à Saint-Etienne...). LYONIX est déjà relié à TOPIX (Turin) et va bientôt ouvrir un point d'accès à Genève (Suisse).

Concernant MIX : MIX est le principal IXP en Italie. MIX offre l'interco et le peering à plus de 70 ISP et une trentaine d'opérateurs nationaux ou internationaux. MIX est stratégiquement installé au nord-ouest de Milan, dans un campus où sont également installés la plupart des ISP et des opérateurs ce qui lui permet d'offrir des prestations d'interco extrêmement bon marché dans son propre data center

Concernant NaMeX : Créé en 1996, NaMeX est un IXP situé à Rome qui compte une trentaine de membres et 10 Gbps de trafic en pointe. NaMeX est situé dans un data center Tier III. NaMeX représente la plus forte concentration d'ISP et d'opérateur en un seul point du sud de l'Italie. NaMeX propose à ses clients des services tels que le peering privé et public, et l'accès en un seul point à tous les opérateurs présents.

Concernant TOP-IX : Créé en 2002, TOP-IX TOrino Piemonte Internet eXchange) est un consortium à but non-lucratif qui compte une soixantaine de membres. Son objectif est de gérer et distribuer l'accès à son IX dans la partie nord-ouest de l'Italie. De plus, TOP-IX est fortement impliqué dans la détection et l'incubation et l'aide au développement de projets innovants dans le secteur internet avec son programme qui propose « Bande Passante illimitée », « serveurs puissants », ainsi que phases de test gratuites pour les projets internet en phase de création (100+ projets aidés en 3 ans). TOP-IX fait l'objet d'une aide du programme WI-PIE, lui-même soutenu par l'Administration Régionale du Piémont.

Representatives from the IXPs Catnix, Espanix, Lyonix, MIX, Namex and Topix have met today in Barcelona to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of collaborating in enhancing Internet growth in Southern Europe. The signed MoU creates the SEIXP (South European Internet Exchange Points) group whose objective will be to reduce the gap with Northern Europe in terms of exchanged internet traffic in IXPs involved. Their main area of interest will be Southern Europe and also the Mediterranean and the Middle East regions as targets to develop Internet traffic. According to general objectives, its members will develop group activities to foster Internet growth in the areas of interest. First activity will be the issue of a newsletter as a tool to support discussion and cooperation on different technical and business topics, and to create market awareness. The group has also agreed to organize events as a way to create a social networking between IXPs members and enhance cooperation. The group will be managed by a Steering Committee made up of a representative of each IXP member.

About CATNIX CATNIX with its 20 members is the neutral Internet exchange point in Catalonia.
